Nao escrevo ha um tempao e devo demorar mais um pouco para ter um post de verdade. Mas li algo meio assustador e muito irritante e acho que vou contribuir para disseminar a informacao (por menor que minha participacao seja).

A Nova Zelandia ja tem uma nova lei leonina sobre sharing e download e agora tem coisa pior cozinhando nos EUA. Pelo consigo entender, eh o fim da internet como a conhecemos. Em vez das corporacoes evoluirem e encontrarem meios de ganhar seu dinheirinho (dinheirao) em um novo espaco, eles estao tentando destrui-lo. Acho que vamos voltar a epoca dos tambores... Quem eh que tem o direito autoral deles?!

Has been some time since I wrote here and I'll probably take more time to write a proper post. But I read something a bit scary and really irritating and I believe I will contribute a little to disseminate this information.

New Zealand already has a wolfy law about sharing and download and now there even something worse coming from the USA. For what I understand, it will be the end of the internet as we know it. Instead of the corporations finding ways to gain their sweat money (not so much sweat, but lots of fingers) in a new space, they are trying to destroy it. I think we will be back to the drums... Whoever has the copyright for that?!

Cozinhando / Baking & cooking

Acho que ando fazendo mais experiencias na cozinha por aqui do que fazia la do outro lado do mundo. Eu fiz muito bolo e biscoito no Rio, mas por aqui estou indo mais longe. Minha amiga Lilia conseguiu esse livro sobre fazer pao em casa pra mim e finalmente pude testa-lo. Mais facil do que jamais pensei possivel. Com certeza nao eh bonito de ver, mas eh uma delicia! E tenho testemunhas! :P

I believe I'm experiment more in the kitchen here than when I was back on the other side of the world. I used to bake lots of cakes and cookies in Rio, but here I'm going far. My friend Lilia got this book about bake bread at home for m and I finally tested it. Easier than I thought it would be. Not pretty to see but it was delicious! And I have witnesses! :P

Tomei coragem e fui tentar minha mao com comida! Tentei fazer arroz, o basico, e brocolis, e cheguei a um arroz com brocolis e bolinhos de peixe (esses sao congelados, mas eu tenho receita pra fazer na mao!). Novamente, nao eh bonito, mas estava bom. Acho que eh possivel sobreviver sem comida pre-feita/congelada.

Then I gathered some courage and tried to cook! I went for rice, the basic, and broccoli and finish with this rice & broccoli and fish cakes (those are frozen, but I do have a recipe to make them!). Again, not pretty, but was nice. I think it's possible to surviver without pre-made/frozen food.

E pra terminar hoje, mais uma tentativa com video. De novo, coloquei musica, mas ainda tem um barulho ao fundo. Acho que eh da maquina. Nao consigo pensar/achar nenhuma outra explicacao. Desta vez eu tentei filmar como o vento faz as nuvens se moverem por aqui. Sempre me impressiona como elas parecem estar correndo de um lado pro outro. Normalmente significa que o tempo ruim nao dura muito por aqui.

And to finish today, more one try with video. Again, I used music but the weird noise is still there. I think it's from the machine. I can't think/find any other explanation. This time I tried to film how the wind push the clouds around. It always impresses me how they seem to be running from one side to the other. Usually means that not bad weather stays around for long.

Feliz Natal & Merry Christmas

Esse eh meu segundo Natal sozinha. Desta vez deu pra falar com a familia pelo Skype e com certeza estou de melhor humor e melhor situacao do que a primeira vez que estava sozinha. E meu presente este ano foi achar uma maquina de costura usada mas pronta pra me manter ocupada. Janome eh a marca mas acho que vou chama-la de Jane. :D

Por causa de comentarios e reclamacoes, deixa eu esclarecer, o outro Natal que eu estava sozinha foi em 1998, o ano da morte de meu pai. Por escolha propria, acabei passando o final de ano longe da familia. Entao nao estou esquecendo ou fazendo pouco de ninguem.

This is my second Christmas by myself. This time I talked to my family through Skype and I'm sure in a better mood and situation than the first time I was alone. And this year my present was to find a used sewing machine that's is ready to keep me busy. It's a Janome but I think I'll call it Jane. :D

After some comments and complains, let me clarify that the other Christmas I was alone was in 1998, the year my father passed. I chosen to be by myself during the Holidays. So, I'm not forgetting or being mean to anyone here.

to pronto. Ai corta-se de novo em diferentes tamanhos e costura as faixas para formar uma onda com os diferentes tecidos. E repete-se o processo ate o tamanho que quiser.

And the quilt is going well. Strips sewed together and the entire group ready. Then you cut new strips in different sizes and sew then in mismatching positions to look a bit like a wave. Repeat until you reach the desired size.

Acho que tenho um terco pronto.

Furoshiki e meu primeiro video / Furoshiki and my first video

Teve o obrigatorio almoco de final de ano com a turma do trabalho e tinha que ter um amigo oculto, ne? Presentinho barato mas meu problema era o embrulho. Porque por aqui, as lojas nao embrulham pra presente. Vc tem de comprar seu papel de presente e enrolar tudo voce mesma. Ou entao pagar para embrulharem pra voce. Eu comprei uma caneca, que nao venho em caixa, e achei que ia ser muita dor de cabeca embrulhar com papel. Ai eu lembrei de um video do SuperZiper (que voce acha aqui!) e decidi ser modernosa e artesanal e embrulhar a caneca com tecido usando a tecnica japonesa do furoshiki!

I had the obligatory end-of-the-year lunch with my work colleagues and we had to have a secret Santa, right? The gift should be cheap but my problem was the wrapping. Because here, in Kiwiland, the shops don't do gift wrapping. You have to buy all the trimmings and do it yourself or pay someone to do it for you. I bought a mug that didn't had a box and I thought that wrap it with paper would be to much of a hassle. Then I remember a video from SuperZiper blog (that you can find here! The blog is in Portuguese but the video doesn't need any translation.) and decided to go all modern and crafty and wrap the mug with fabric using the Japanese technique of furoshiki!

Escolhi um fat quarter que ganhei de uma amiga e fiz uma bainha usando linha de

bordado e ponto de cobertor (eh esse o nome em portugues?! To traduzindo ao pe da letra aqui.)

Ai, na hora de embrulhar o presente, decidi testar a opcao de filme da camera fotografica e ai embaixo temos minha primeira experiencia em fazer um video. O que descobri? Minhas maos parecem velhas! E nao sei de onde vem o som de rangido ao fundo. Eu coloquei uma musica para ver se ajudava, mas... E eh bem dificil fazer um video que realmente mostre como voce estah fazendo algo. Ficou meh, mas valeu a experiencia. Nao riam muito alto ou derramem nada no teclado do computador quando estiverem assistindo.

I chose a fat quarter I got from a friend and did blanket stitches around it. When it was time to do the wrapping I remember the movie feature on the photographic machine and decided to test it. So below is my my first video making experience. What I found out? My hands look really old! And I haven't the faintest idea from where is the groaning sounds in the background. I put some music to see if it helped but... And it's really hard to make a video that can really show how you're doing something. The result is a bit blargh, but it counts as experience. Don't laugh to loud and don't spill anything over the keyboard while watching it.

E pra finalizar, trancei o resto da linha de bordado, imprimi um pequeno cartao e voila!

And to finish it, I braided some embroidery thread, printed a small card and voila!

Muito, muito tempo longe / Long time away

Gente, dez meses desde que escrevi neste blog pela ultima vez! Nem acredito! Ou melhor, acredito sim, porque sei que parte foi por nao ter muito o que dizer, e parte foi preguica.

Gee, ten months since I last wrote here in this blog! I don't believe it! Or, better yet, I do believe it because I know part of it was because I hadn't much to say and part because I was being lazy.

Mas nos ultimos dois meses comecei a me movimentar de novo e voltei a fazer coisas: um pouco de trico e ate voltei ao patchwork, mesmo tendo que costurar na mao porque nao tenho uma maquina por aqui. AINDA!

But on the last couple of months I started to do things again: I knitted a bit and even went back to patchwork, even if I had to sew by hand because I don't have a sewing machine here. YET!

Entao, primeiro, o cachecol que estou tricotando: / So, first, the scarf I'm knitting:

E eh baseado na receita "Meu assim chamado cachecol" que voces podem achar bem explicadinho aqui, no video da Regina, e a receita original estah no Ravelry e eh da Allison Isaacs.

The recipe is from "My So Called Scarf" from Allison Isaacs at Ravelry but I used this video to help me understand it. Sorry, it's in portuguese, but you can follow the action easily enough.

A segunda foto eh de algo que comecei e terminei! Yeah! Minha primeira peca em agulha circular: uma toca! A receita estah aqui, um video do KnitPicks, mas essa eh em ingles. E podem ver que ja estou fazendo uma segunda toca, desta vez usando dois fios! Fiquei impressionada o quao rapido tricotar em circulo eh. Terminando esse chapeu, vamos ver se avanco para algo mais desafiante, como um pulover! Ah, sonhar....

with two yarns! I was impressed how quick

it was to knit in the round. Finishing this hat I'm planning to do something more challenging like a sweater! Ah, to dream...

E para fechar esse post, os tecidos que estou usando para fazer meu patchwork, usando a tecnica bargello. Na verdade ja costurei e cortei o basico do desenho. Quando eu tiver algo mais completo, eu mostro.

And to close this post, the fabric I'm using for my patchwork project, using the bargello technique. Actually, I have already cut and sew the basic design. As soon as I have something presentable, I'll show it here.

Algo diferente e bonito / Something different and beautiful

Nao escrevo mesmo ha bastante tempo, mas o artesanato/costura/trico estah parado no meio dessa minha aventura kiwi.

Mas descobri algo hoje que acho que vale muito a pena divulgar: a vencedora da versao ucraniana do "Got Talent" que desenha com as maos e areia. Achei lindo demais.

I know I haven't write in a long while but the crafts/sewing/knitting is on hold right now in the middle of this kiwi adventure.

But I found out something that I believe deserves to be divulge: the winner of the Ukraine version of "Got Talent" that draws with her hands and sand. Too beautiful.

Rapidinha / Quickie

Nao escrevo a um tempao. Nem aqui nem no blog de viagem. Estou devendo, eu sei. Pelo menos subi algumas fotos para distrair enquanto tento escrever algo que valha. Esse post eh so pra contar o acidente com o projeto do cachecol "My so called scarf". Estava indo direitinho ate que... Veja a foto abaixo. Desmontei o que ja tinha feito e estou me concentrando no cachecol do Rodrigo por enquanto.

I haven't been writing. Not here and not on the travel blog. I'm in debt, I know. At least I publish some photos to distract you while I try to write something worthwhile. This post is just to tell you about a small acieent while I was knitting "My so called scarf". I was doing ok until... Check the photo below. I frogged what I had done and, for now, I'm concentrating in Rodrigo's scarf.
